Serengeti, whose very name means “endless plains”, has come to symbolize paradise to many of us with its wide open spaces, bright blue skies and creature filled landscape, the fabled Serengeti typifies everyone’s version of “dream Africa”. It is one of the last places in the world where vast numbers of large animals can be seen in their natural habitat.
It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for short rains every October and November and then swirl West and North after the long rains from March to early June. The migration can therefore be best viewed in the Serengeti from December to June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back.

It is possible to make have a once in a lifetime experience by flying a balloon over the Serengeti. There are two starting points, one in Seronera area and one in the western corridor. Click on balloon safari on your right for more information.

January, February, March, April and May you will find most animals in the southern plains and Ndutu area. In January millions of calves will get born. While February and March will be calving season.

The route and timing of the great migration is unpredictable. It depends on the time of the rain. Allow at least three days to be assured of seeing them on your visit - longer if you want to see the main predators as well.

Central Serengeti, also known as Seronera area, is a good place to visit all year long. It has a high concentration of animals and is home to a lot of big cats, like the cheetah, leopard and lion. The Seronera River provides the animals with water during the whole year.
